As the opening of the 17th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD COP17) draws near, preparations have entered the final stretch. As a massive 130,000-square-meter venue and its 14 functional zones take shape in Ulaanbaatar, a dedicated team from TAIDEN has already spent 30 intense days working behind the scenes on this global stage.

In early July, shipping containers packed with conference and professional sound reinforcement systems successfully arrived at the venue following cross-border transport and customs clearance. The unboxing and verification proceeded in a fast-paced yet meticulous fashion: TAIDEN engineers cross-checked thousands of components—including conference units, simultaneous interpretation equipment, loudspeakers, central controllers, and cabling—against the master inventory, laying a solid foundation for the installation phase ahead.

“Getting the equipment here safely is only the first step. The real challenge starts with the installation,” remarked an on-site engineer.

Delivering a conference overseas is never just a test of technical strength. Coordinating across multiple fronts—including the Mongolian construction contractor and the venue operator—the TAIDEN team faced a project of immense scale with numerous stakeholders. Translating the plan from blueprint to reality required extensive communication, where every step forward was forged through meticulous alignment and a gradually built consensus.

TAIDEN engineers conducted repeated site walk-throughs alongside the construction team, dynamically fine-tuning equipment layouts and cabling plans based on the actual spatial layout, power loads, and network conditions of each functional zone. Through countless on-site meetings and rounds of drawing revisions, the team engaged in rigorous back-and-forth, gradually converging on the optimal solution.

Sprawling across 130,000 square meters, the mega-venue was divided into 14 functional zones, set to host hundreds of meetings on an intensive, back-to-back schedule. Each system had to operate independently while remaining fully interconnected. Routing cables across vast, sprawling spaces, navigating complex acoustic environments in non-standard venues, coordinating overlapping tasks across multiple trades, and mitigating electrical interference—each of these challenges put the team’s technical expertise to the ultimate test.

On July 20, Mongolian Prime Minister Luvsannamsrain Oyun-Erdene visited the venue to inspect preparations. The TAIDEN team had efficiently completed the deployment of conference and sound reinforcement systems in the temporary meeting room, with the systems delivering flawless stability and clarity throughout. Speaking in the newly equipped space, the Prime Minister highly commended TAIDEN’s expertise and exceptional delivery. This endorsement from Mongolia’s top leadership was the best possible reward for the TAIDEN team’s 30 days of unwavering dedication.

From engineers spending hours hunched over cabling in equipment rooms to team members clocking 20,000 steps a day crisscrossing the venue, the pace never let up. Over those 30 days, it was a relentless cycle of installation, commissioning, post-mortem analysis, and fine-tuning. UNCCD COP17—the most wide-reaching UN conference on global ecological governance in 2026—marks the third time TAIDEN has been entrusted with supporting a UN environmental convention COP. Building on its benchmark execution at COP13 in Ordos in 2017 and its stellar performance at COP15 in Kunming in 2021, the team is now in Ulaanbaatar, ready to scale new heights once again.
