A total of 118 heads of state, heads of government and senior representatives from various countries have gathered in New York. The situation in the Middle East is the most closely watched issue in this year’s General Debate, while artificial intelligence governance, climate finance, global supply chains and UN reform are also key topics for leaders’ speeches and discussions.
This session coincides with a pivotal period in the selection of the next UN Secretary-General, a process that is drawing intense global attention. During the High-level Week, countries have arranged a dense schedule of bilateral meetings. China and the United States also used the occasion of the UNGA to engage in communication and dialogue, exchanging views on international hotspot issues and bilateral relations—a major diplomatic highlight of this year’s session.
Renowned as a premier global political gathering, the General Debate of the UN General Assembly (UNGA) is exceptional in scale, level, and reach. Its long duration, dense agenda, and frequent speeches and votes—combined with demanding requirements such as multilingual real-time interaction, cross-border live connections, and high-definition audio and video transmission—put the stability, precision, and security of conference systems to the ultimate test. It is therefore an authoritative touchstone for the global conferencing technology sector. For this year’s General Debate, more than 10,000 conference system units were deployed, including paperless multimedia conference units, fully digital conference units, fully digital simultaneous interpretation channel selectors, fully digital 64-channel interpretation units, HD video encoders, and conference-specific digital mixing consoles designed specifically for UN Headquarters. These systems cover functions including speaking, voting, simultaneous interpretation, paperless operations, and electronic nameplates.
Beyond this session, UN Secretary-General António Guterres has noted that the UN system holds approximately 27,000 meetings each year. Such a high-density schedule keeps the conference systems at UN Headquarters operating at high frequency, continuously, and under heavy load, placing extremely high demands on stability and durability.
In recent years, UN Headquarters has continued to advance the upgrade of its conference systems, and TAIDEN has continued to upgrade the paperless multimedia conference systems in its conference rooms. The new equipment was officially deployed during this year’s General Debate.
