The 17th Session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD COP17) recently came to a successful close in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. Over the 12-day event, nearly 12,000 delegates representing 197 Parties engaged in intensive multilateral consultations to advance global efforts against desertification and land degradation.

The conference featured a densely packed agenda of hundreds of sessions across various scales and formats—from plenary sessions and high-level meetings to working group consultations, bilateral talks, and press briefings. To address the complex and dynamic meeting environments of COP17, TAIDEN provided a tailored, fully integrated solution encompassing conference discussion, simultaneous interpretation, sound reinforcement, and automated camera tracking.

In the main plenary hall, each seat is equipped with the HCS-4895D fully digital conference unit. Device roles—chairman, delegate, dual-delegate, or VIP—can be flexibly configured via software, allowing a single unit to serve multiple purposes. This versatility effortlessly accommodates large-scale speaking requirements for thousands of participants while ensuring smooth transitioning across different agenda formats.

In breakout rooms, the HCS-4838DS fully digital conference unit is standardized as the standard deployment. Equipped with an intelligent low-cut switch and low-frequency attenuation technology, it captures high-fidelity audio while effectively filtering out ambient noise and low-frequency interference. Its intuitive physical button design requires zero learning curve, ensuring efficient and frictionless meeting operations.

To enhance meeting flow and the participant experience, the meeting rooms feature TAIDEN 4K UHD conference cameras that deliver precise, real-time speaker tracking without manual intervention—automatically switching to and framing the active speaker. Supporting 4K high-definition video output, on-screen display of interpretation language names, and speaking countdown timers, the system significantly boosts communication efficiency in multi-seat deliberative settings.

To support seamless multilingual communication across in-person, virtual, and hybrid formats, each room is equipped with a TAIDEN simultaneous interpretation system for real-time multi-language translation. Additionally, the TAIDEN 16-channel audio I/O unit directly feeds lossless local interpretation audio to the online platform, ensuring barrier-free communication between on-site and remote participants.

In the large main plenary hall, the HLA-208 line array speaker serves as the main PA system, complemented by HCL-404+404J column speakers for precise delay/fill coverage and HLA-218B line array subwoofers for extended low-end response. This setup delivers concert-grade sound reinforcement with powerful impact and uniform acoustic coverage. Standard breakout rooms center on the HCL-404+404J column speakers, paired with HSP-210B woofers and HSM-112 coaxial monitor loudspeaker. This configuration maximizes vocal clarity and speech intelligibility, achieving high-fidelity, energy-efficient audio performance tailored for conference environments.

No matter how solid the design, on-site execution is the ultimate test. The TAIDEN engineering team rose to the challenge, delivering flawless results over 60 days of non-stop dedication.

Driven by tight deadlines, heavy workloads, and multifaceted site challenges, the team mobilized early for system deployment and commissioning, working tirelessly through holidays without downtime.

To tackle the severe instability and voltage fluctuations of the local power grid, the team took the initiative at the distribution planning level—building a complete, dedicated power assurance system from the ground up, complete with tiered circuit breakers, residual current devices (RCDs), and voltage stabilizers.

Faced with constrained resources and a compressed timeline, TAIDEN engineers drew on extensive experience accumulated through years of large-scale overseas projects to devise power distribution plans tailored to local conditions and flexibly allocate available resources. Within these limited conditions and tight timeframes, they successfully established a stable, safe, and reliable power assurance system and completed the deployment of the conference system.

A greater challenge came from the construction schedule. The originally planned construction window was compressed due to on-site coordination among multiple trades and adjustments to the venue handover timeline. The TAIDEN team had to complete the setup of 35 meeting rooms and over 100 mobile interpretation booths, as well as the cabling, installation, and system commissioning of more than 6,000 conference units—all within a short period. This also involved intensive construction tasks such as extensive concealed cabling and high-altitude operations.

With the goal of on-time delivery and acceptance, the team carried out cabling and installation during the day and overtime commissioning at night, ensuring that all stages were tightly coordinated and advanced in parallel.

Throughout the event, TAIDEN’s team maintained a round-the-clock presence across all venues, offering real-time response and continuous technical support to guarantee the flawless, simultaneous operation of thousands of conference units. From initial site surveys and solution refinement to installation, commissioning, pre-event testing, and on-ground support during the event, TAIDEN delivered full-lifecycle technical services to ensure every session ran seamlessly.

This marks TAIDEN’s third appearance at a UN environmental COP.
