TAIDEN Equips the AU Convention Center with Digital Congress Systems

On January 28th, 2012 the African Union (AU) Convention Center was inaugurated in Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia. All the thirteen conference rooms have been equipped with TAIDEN digital congress systems, cumulating more than 4000 contribution units.
Addis Ababa is the political and economic center of Ethiopia. More than 120 international missions and embassies are based in Addis Ababa, making the city a foreland for African Diplomacy to the world. The headquarters of the African Union and the UN Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) are both located in the city.
 

 
On January 29, with the theme “Boosting intra-African trade”, the African Union Summit of the 18th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the African Union was held in the African Union (AU) Conference Center. The AU Commission Chairman Jean Ping, the Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi, the AU Chairman on duty and President of Equatorial Guinea Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, and the Secretary-General of the United Nations Ban Ki-moon delivered a speech during the summit. During the two-day meeting delegates exchanged views about the intra-African economic and trade matters, regional security situation, etc.

The AU convention center comprises one large conference hall with 2550 seatings, one 681-seating medium-size conference hall, one multifunctional hall, four small meeting rooms, one VIP meeting room and five press release rooms. All 13 meeting rooms are equipped with TAIDEN congress systems: 3780 pcs of TAIDEN HCS-4100 series fully digital congress system contribution units, TAIDEN HCS-5100 series infrared language distribution system, matrix switchers, video auto-tracking system, and 14 pcs HCS-4393 remote sign-in system.
As all the seats are fixed, the units for the podium as well for the guests area have embedded fully digital congress unit HCS-4365 (discussion, simultaneous interpretation, voting) - a total of 213 seatings; the seats for the meeting participants are equipped each with a fully digital simultaneous interpretation channel selector HCS-4342A (installed in the armrest of the seat) - a total of 2291 seatings. In total 16 pcs of fully digital simultaneous interpretation units HCS-4385K2 are installed in the center. Unique to other international conference centers, all the simultaneous interpretation units in the AU convention center are wired, which provides perfect sound quality and convenience. On the opening ceremony the media center was opened to journalists coming from all over the world. Four broadcast standard audio distributors HCS-4112/29 provided English, French, Arabic and Portuguese to all journalists.

The AU Convention Center broke the record and became the largest order of TAIDEN products for African projects. A dedicated technical team was assigned by TAIDEN to assist and support from the preliminary design, through the construction period, till the opening and closing ceremony. The mission was completed successfully and awarded high appreciation from the AU headquarters.
