The 13th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 13) to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) was held at the Ordos International Convention and Exhibition Center in Inner Mongolia, China from 6 to 17 September 2017. About 2,000 delegates from 196 countries and regions and more than 20 international organizations attended the biennial conference. As the supplier of conference system equipment for this conference, TAIDEN provided more than 1500 conference delegate units, over 3000 sets of conference digital infrared receiver for the 21 venues of the conference. TAIDEN conference system products and services have once again won the recognition and praise of delegates from around the world.

The United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) is one of the three major environmental conventions under the framework of the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development. It entered into force in December 1996, and there are currently 196 parties to the Convention. The Conference of the Parties (COP) is the highest decision-making body of the Convention and is convened every two years for two weeks, hosted by the Parties on a rotating basis. The host of the COP13 is the UNCCD Secretariat, the organizer is the Chinese government, and the undertakers are the State Forestry Administration, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the government of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. This is the first time for China to host an UN-level environmental conference. As the conference system equipment supplier of this conference, TAIDEN participated in the international consultation activities on environmental issues, and helped to make a voice for the well-being of mankind and for keeping the treasurable natural resources for future generations.

The theme for this year’s conference is “Combating Desertification for Human Well-being”. The main task of the session was to seek solutions for the UN sustainable goal of “achieving a land degradation neutral world by 2030” and to develop a new UNCCD strategy framework for the 2018-2030 period. The COP elected Zhang Jianlong, Minister of State Forestry Administration of China, as President of its thirteenth session. The Executive Secretary of the UNCCD secretariat Monique Barbut and the Governor of the People’s Government of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Ms. Bu Xiaolin, made statements on the opening ceremony.

The first week of COP13 is devoted to technical activities, including opening of the session, the plenary, Committee on Science and Technology and Committee for the Review of the Implementation of the Convention. The second week is the main event, including the opening of the high-level segment, high-level round tables, closing ceremony of the high-level segment and the closure of the session.

On September 17, the COP13 came to an end, and the Conference issued a historic outcome — The Ordos Declaration. At the closing ceremony, the TAIDEN conference system once again helped such international conference to come to a successful conclusion with its excellent and stable performance, becoming another splendid chapter in the development of TAIDEN.
